When traveling to Croatia there are countless different excursions and activities to choose from, but don’t miss Krka National Park.
The tour to Krka is great for travelers based in Split, as it allows you to get out of the city and see the countryside for cheap.
If you’re traveling on a budget like we were, you may be wondering what’s actually worth it, and what’s just a social media tourist trap. We decided to do a day trip to Krka National Park through a tour. *They no longer offer swimming in the waterfalls, but we agree that the lack of swimming tourists made the trip more magical.
There is something so special about leaving the city and driving through the countryside to get a better feel for a new country.
Our guide, Gabby, met us in Split and walked our group to the bus. Throughout the drive she was incredibly informative, but not overbearing. She passed around a clipboard allowing people on the bus to write questions about Croatia, not just about Krka National Park. She shared restaurants to go to, dishes to try, a local’s perspective on Croatia’s growing tourism industry, and more.
Krka National park
We started our Krka excursion in the park by taking a ferry down the emerald green river. This brought us to the start of the park’s hiking trail.
The famous falls are right at the beginning, but the entire walk is breathtaking – not just because of the couple flights of stairs in the beginning!
We loved having the ability to walk with the guide in the beginning, and on our own for the majority of the time.
She let us sample candied almonds, and candied lemon and orange zests. We ended up purchasing some as well as fresh figs to have a little picnic overlooking the waterfalls. The park has a beautiful loop path that is not difficult to walk around.
Primošten Excursion
Next, we drove to a small beach town called Primošten. This allowed us to see more of Croatia than we otherwise would have. We opted to lounge on the white rocky beaches and swim in the serene crystal blue waters. This was so refreshing and the best way to enjoy the beautiful Croatian weather.
At the end of the day we agreed that this excursion was well worth the price of $32/per person.
